Taghkanic Community Forest Kickoff!

Saturday, May 17th, was a big day in Taghkanic! Area residents planted more than 1200 trees in the soon-to-be formally established Taghkanic Community Forest. This was truly an event where the community came together - nearly 100 people showed up and planted a large variety of native trees and shrubs.

Columbia Land Conservancy will soon acquire this 550-plus acres located in East Taghkanic. Although owned by the CLC, this Community Forest will be managed by a group of local stakeholders. There will be opportunities to serve on a management committee as well as roles as boots on the ground Forest Stewards.

Here is the link to learn more about these roles and to complete an online application: https://columbialand.org/get-involved/volunteering/tcf/

For those of you who missed out on Saturday's planting party, stay tuned for future events!
